How to Celebrate 2020 New Year’s Celebrations

December 21, 2020 by Karen Baker Leave a Comment

How to Celebrate 2020 New Year’s Celebrations

It’s almost New Year’s It is no secret that the year 2020 has brought many challenges. Birthdays, Holidays, and events have moved to virtual video calls, socially distanced outdoor gatherings, etc. Just because the year hasn’t been exactly what we expected or planned, doesn’t mean that we can’t still celebrate 2020 style. Take a look at these few ideas that can help you celebrate the New Year from the comfort of your own home

#1 Get Dressed Up for New Year’s

Even if you aren’t going out, there is something about dressing up for a Holiday that simply makes you feel good, even when choosing to stay in, find your best dress or suit and dress for the occasion.

#2 Have a Game Night on New Year’s

Whether it’s an old classic or a game that you’ve never played, bring on the games! Play a game with those in your household or set up a virtual game night with extended family or friends, with a little organization, this can be a super fun event.

#3 Throw a Virtual Party

Much like a virtual game night, you can host a virtual New Year’s Eve Party. Invite friends, family, neighbors and co-workers and spend the evening ringing in the new year together, even if just via a zoom call. This can be as simple as chatting the night away, or as elaborate as having contest, giveaways, etc.

#4 Try a New Recipe

With stay-at-home orders there is plenty of time at home to try new things. Gather all the ingredients for a fun evening of cooking. Find a new recipe, turn on some music, and test out your hand at preparing a gourmet meal.

#5 Watch the Ball Drop

The Ball drop is going virtual! You can tune in on one of your devices to enjoy the Ball Drop regardless of where you are, a great way to get in the Holiday spirit.

#6 Decorate and Take Photos

If you’ve seen the movie Elf, then you know how much fun decorating can be. While you may not build the whole city of New York out of Legos, decorating for the New Year can be a fun activity. To make it even more fun, have a contest between yourself and either your friends or family’s households to see who can decorate the best.

Regardless of how you choose to celebrate, while the year may not have been what we expected it to be, try to take time to reflect on all the good things that the year of 2020 brought to you and your family, whether a new pet or a new love for board games and puzzles, the options and possibilities are endless.

North Carolina Azalea Festival

Get it on the calendar now! This year’s annual Azalea Festival in Wilmington NC this year is happening April 1-5, 2020.

Join us this year for the annual Azalea Festival originally founded back in 1948. This is Wilmington’s premier annual event with big-name entertainment, galas, family events, and Southern hospitality. The goal is to be nationally recognized as a showcase for the community is a rich array of artwork, gardens, history, and culture. This festival encourages volunteers and civic participation with colorful parades, street fairs, home and garden tours, fireworks, music, delicious food, and of course beautiful gardens and flowers.

History

This festival originally started back in 1934 with Dr. Houston Moore, who had the vision of transforming a swampy Greenfield Lake into a beautiful park. With local clubs and participants as well as the Wilmington Rotary Club, Dr. Moore’s inspiration finally came to fruition 10 years later. The first North Carolina Azalea Festival was held in 1948 with over 60,000 participants.

The festival creates an estimated $51 million annually in economic stimulus with over 1000 volunteers, and thousands of participants. This community celebration is the largest festival of its kind in the state and features a full week of beauty, big-name entertainment, festival parties, kids events, parades, music, and more. There’s a lot of community pride and springtime pageantry with concerts and fares, over 200,000 attendees, and a beautiful parade celebrating Queen Azalea at the official opening of the five-day event. There are over 50 events throughout the week including street fairs, garden tours, special exhibits, workshops, activities, vendors, booths, music and more.

Visit the website to see how you can get involved. Since we are promoting this so early there’s plenty of time to volunteer, find out more about registration and parade attendees, or just get it on your calendar and be sure to attend one or all five days.

10 Fun Traditions to Adopt on Christmas Eve

December 18, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

I remember just starting out and wanting my own traditions when it came to the holidays. There are so many different things that you can add into your traditional events and activities but if you’re looking for something a little bit new, what you give these 10 unique and fun traditions a try for your Christmas Eve this year.

10 Fun Traditions to Adopt on Christmas Eve

#1. Create a hot chocolate bar.

What can be warmer and inviting been a warm cup of hot chocolate? It even looks like the spirit of the season and when you can layout a beautiful spread of toppings, flavors, and make sense, it’s fun for everyone. Even if it’s just a couple of people or the entire neighborhood, this is a great tradition. Set out different types of toppings, flavor mix-ins, and flavored whipped cream. Have a big bowl, punch bowl, or crockpot full of delicious hot chocolate for people to serve up.

#2. Have a Christmas treasure hunt.

Maybe make the kids work for their treats from Santa this year. You can hide treats from Santa throughout the house or even outside setting up clues like a wild goose chase from one to another.

#3. Give new pajamas.

We’ve adopted this in our household where everyone gets new Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve. You wear your pajamas and then spend the rest of Christmas Day in those warm and cozy PJs.

10 Fun Traditions to Adopt on Christmas Eve

#4. Give.

I can’t think of a better Christmas tradition and giving. Don’t forget about people in need during the holidays so whether it’s bringing a plate of cookies to a neighbor, giving to your local food bank, or offering charity to your local church in whatever gift they are doing, giving brings out the spirit in all of us.

#5. Have a Christmas cookie competition.

Have everyone bring a dozen cookies, all different kinds, and then you can vote on which one is your favorite.

#6. Break out the board games.

Has that Monopoly or Scrabble board sat in your closet too long? Consider being more interactive this year and have everyone sit down to a roving boardgame.

#7. Ask your ancestors for inspiration.

What did your ancestors do for Christmas Eve? Are there traditional foods or activities people would do on Christmas? Dig a little deeper and find out what people ate back then and serve it up on Christmas Eve.

10 Fun Traditions to Adopt on Christmas Eve

#8. Open one present.

I remember growing up that we can open one present on Christmas Eve. You might even combine it with the pajama gift.

#9. Christmas movie binging.

Didn’t get a chance to watch all your favorites this year? Consider binging until midnight with your favorite Christmas movies of Its a Wonderful Life, the Santa Claus, and Miracle on 34th St.

#10. Decorate gingerbread houses.

Have a gingerbread making contest where everyone gets a cheap gingerbread house at the store and can decorate it to their heart’s content. If there are enough people, hold the competition and see who wins. You might even consider posting it on social media to get everyone else involved.

This is going to be a wonderful Christmas this year and from our family to yours, Happy Holidays!!

“Life will lead you to where you belong. Five years ago life led me to meeting Karen Baker at an Open House. Our relationship continues as Karen and her husband Frank have been outstanding not only in helping my husband and I find the right retirement relocation home, but we have watched their commitment in helping many others find their homes. She and Frank treat every client as if they are the only ones that exist. They provide thorough research of areas and homes of interest and present you with the options. They are not your typical hard sell, must-buy-now realtors. They are here to help you find your next home?. You won’t go wrong with the Bakers!

“The Bakers treated us like family during our whirlwind weekend of looking at houses. Prior to our on-site visit to Sunset Beach they created a portal and populated it with properties that met our ever-evolving criteria. By time we arrived we had a good feel for what we could afford and what was available that met our criteria. The Bakers, especially Karen, were able to make sense of what we thought we were looking for and eventually matched us with a house that we ended up purchasing — Karen called it the “This is it” house and she was right. We are loving our 2nd home and appreciate how painless Karen and Frank made the process. All the paperwork was done seamlessly and quickly and the closing went off without a hitch. The Bakers do not believe in the hard sell — they gave us the knowledge we needed and the guidance we needed to make our dream a reality.”

Amy and I have bought and sold four properties in the past twelve years. Both of you are the best realtors we have ever dealt with. Amy and I both felt we could trust you to look out for our interest. The level of service you provided was outstanding, from taking the trash out, helping the buyer with inspecting the irrigation system, dealing with our tenants, always being there if we needed to ask a question, providing constant updates on the market and always keeping us informed on the sale of our house. I think your next venture should be training other realtors, because both of you have mastered the art of providing excellent service. I will be sure to recommend the Frank and Karen team to anybody looking for a trust worthy, knowledgeable and top performing realtor. It was a pleasure working with both of you.”
